Chapter 6

“Oh, its coming!!” came a wail from the nursing den, “Help!!” She’s having kits already!? Bluffeyes thought. She ran out of her den into the snow in the direction of the nursing den. “Are you alright” she said frantically to Snowstorm.
“Ooohhh,” Snowstorm moaned, “It feels odd in my stomach.”
“What does it feel like?” Bluffeyes asked. She didn’t say it but her conscious was telling her something was wrong. “It feels like fluttering in my belly.”
That’s not right! “Let’s just try to get it out.” Bluffeyes tried to not look panicked but she had never done this on her own. What if I do some thing wrong? What if the kit dies and it’s all my fault?!
“AGH!” Snowstorm wailed. “It’s almost out” Bluffeyes said calmly.  That’s strange? She thought It almost looks like it has wings! The kit slipped out onto the soft moss. Almost immediately her eyes opened and she sprang onto Bluffeyes. “YOW!” Screamed Bluffeyes as the small ball of fluff sprang at her with enough force to knock down a full grown guardian.
“What’s going on here!” yowled Wolfeyes from the entrance. Immediately the kit spread its feathery wings and flew out the entrance to the den. What is going on!  The kit was different from any kit Bluffeyes had ever seen. She was brown, but had a blue stripe down her back that resembled wind. On her head she had a blue jagged stripe with a green jewel shape in the middle of her forehead. Her tail was elegant with thick purple rings and thin green ones all along it.
“What kind of kit is this!” Wolfeyes said
astonishingly. Then, smelling warm milk Bluffeyes
guessed swooped back into the den and suckled milk
from her mother. Snowstorm pulled away from the
kit and ran to the far corner of the den, “Get that
THING away from me!” Then the kit sprang up from
the bed of moss and ran out the entrance to the fresh
kill pile. She chose a squirrel and ate the whole thing.
This kit must have some sort of power that I don’t
know about. Thought Bluffeyes.
“This is bigger than any of us can imagine” said
Snowstorm. “What do you mean?” Bluffeyes asked
astonishingly. “Coldsnow,” Snowstorm started,
“came to me in a dream. He said ‘With one jagged
claw and soaring wings, the she-cat shall save you
from terrible things, I think that means my kit.”
